Questions about this calculator

How is overtime pay calculated?

Hours up to your threshold are paid at the normal rate. Hours above it are paid at the normal rate multiplied by your overtime multiplier — commonly 1.5, often called time and a half. Total pay is the two added together.

What is time and a half?

It means each overtime hour is paid at 1.5 times the normal hourly rate. At £12 an hour, an overtime hour is £18. Enter 1.5 as the multiplier to calculate it here.

What overtime threshold should I use?

Use whatever your employment contracts or local law require. There is no single global rule, so this calculator asks you for the threshold rather than assuming one.

Is this legal advice?

No. It's a maths tool. Overtime entitlement, thresholds and rates vary by country and contract, so check your obligations with a qualified adviser before running payroll.
