GPS Time Tracking for Employees Working Across Job Sites
Time-Clocking checks a worker's phone location at clock-in against the approved radius of their assigned construction site when GPS coordinates are configured. It records the shift, not a route or an all-day location history. Managers review the recorded hours; the check does not prove identity or automatically calculate pay.

Why Recorded Hours Drift Away From Reality
Start times get remembered, not recorded
A time written down on Friday for a Monday shift is a guess. Small roundings, repeated across a team and a month, become real money.
You can't tell who's actually on site
Without a location check, a clock-in from the van, from home or from the cafe down the road looks identical to one from the site itself.
Nobody remembers to clock in
When clocking in means finding a shared tablet or texting a supervisor, it gets skipped and then reconstructed afterwards.
Payroll becomes an investigation
Chasing missing hours by phone adds work to payroll preparation; the time needed depends on your team and records.
How Time-Clocking Verifies Employee Hours
A location check that can't be skipped
The check runs on the server when the shift is created, so it isn't something an employee can talk their way around on the phone screen.
A mobile GPS time clock, not hardware
It runs in the phone browser your crew already has. Nothing to mount by a door, nothing to install, nothing to lose on site.
A radius you control per site
Set a tight area for a small unit or a generous one for a large site, so the check fits the job instead of fighting it.
Verified distance stored with the shift
Each clock-in keeps the distance it was verified at, so a query weeks later has a record behind it.
Verified hours straight to payroll
Filter the period you're paying and export a CSV of totals per employee and per site.
GPS Time Tracking, Step by Step
- 1
The employee clocks in from their phone
They open Time-Clocking, pick the site they're working at today and tap Clock In.
- 2
GPS confirms the location
Their distance from that site's approved area is checked at that moment. If it doesn't pass, no shift is created.
- 3
The hours are recorded
The clock-in time is stored, and the clock-out at the end of the shift closes the same entry.
- 4
The timesheet is ready for payroll
Totals per employee and per site build up as shifts complete, and export as a CSV when you run payroll.
What Location-Verified Time Tracking Gives You
Accuracy you can defend
Hours come from timestamps taken when work started, not from a memory reconstructed on payday.
Accountability without surveillance
One check at clock-in answers the question that matters — were they there when the shift began — and nothing more.
Less admin every week
No collecting sheets, no re-typing, no reconciling two versions of the same week.
Fewer awkward conversations
The record is the same for everyone, so disagreements about hours have somewhere neutral to go.
Faster payroll preparation
The week is already totalled when you sit down to run it.
Convenience for the crew
Two taps on a phone at the start and end of a shift, wherever the work happens to be.
Who Uses GPS Time Tracking for Job Sites
Construction and trades
General contractors, electricians, plumbers and roofers whose crews start at a different address each week.
Field service and maintenance
Engineers and maintenance teams who go straight from home to a customer's premises.
Cleaning companies
Teams covering several buildings in an evening where attendance at each one has to be provable.
Landscaping and grounds
Crews moving between properties in a day with no office to pass through.
Security and facilities
Staff posted to a specific site where being on site at the start of the shift is the whole job.
Any team away from your premises
If you can name the address, you can set a site and verify clock-ins there.
Written Hours Versus a Verified Clock-In
Paper, spreadsheets and punch clocks
- Times recalled and written down after the fact
- No evidence of where the shift started
- Totals added up by hand each week
- Errors surface after payroll has run
- Missing sheets chased by phone
A mobile GPS time clock
- Times stored the moment the shift starts and ends
- Distance from the site verified at clock-in
- Totals calculated from stored timestamps
- This week's hours visible today, not next Friday
- Nothing to collect and nothing to re-type
GPS Time Tracking Questions
How does GPS employee time tracking software actually work?
You set an address for each place your team works and how close someone has to be for the location to count. When an employee taps Clock In on their phone, Time-Clocking asks the phone for its current position once and compares the distance to that approved area. Inside it, the shift starts. Outside it, no shift is created and the employee sees how far away they are.
Does the GPS time clock app track my team all day?
No. Location is requested at the moment of clocking in and nowhere else. There is no background tracking, no route history and no location taken during or after the shift.
What if an employee refuses location permission?
Without location permission the location check cannot run, so the shift does not start. That is deliberate: the value of employee GPS time tracking comes from the check being unavoidable.
Is GPS time tracking for job sites accurate enough?
Phone location accuracy varies with the device, signal and surroundings, especially indoors. Set a practical radius for each site and review reported distance and accuracy if a legitimate clock-in fails. A location check is not proof of someone's identity or where they worked throughout the shift.
Can somebody clock in for a colleague who isn't there?
Each employee needs a signed-in account and an assigned site; a configured geofence checks the phone's reported location. This is not biometric identity verification and cannot guarantee protection against shared credentials or spoofed device locations.
Do employees need to install a mobile GPS time clock app?
No. Time-Clocking runs in the phone's browser, so a new starter can be clocking in minutes after you add them.
Do the verified hours help with payroll?
Yes. Every completed shift stores its start and finish time, and you can filter a date range by employee or site and export the totals as a CSV for payroll.
Start Verifying Hours Instead of Guessing Them
Add your first site, set its radius, invite your team, and have them clocking in with a location check this afternoon.
